India has 2226 tigers as compared to 1706 in 2010

New Delhi: The government on Tuesday released the latest tiger population report which shows a bump up in population.

According to the report, the overall figure of tigers in India is at present 2226 as compared to 1706 in 2010.

India lost 64 tigers due to various reasons in 2014 with Tamil Nadu topping the chart with the maximum number of deaths, according to the National Tiger Conservation Authority.

Experts said that the latest census has been done with the best scientific technology available and it should give a good estimate of tiger population in India.
