Avoid these five inconveniences when going to bed
We all dream of waking up after a good night’s rest, but most of us make mistakes that make us unable to get the highest quality.
With the watches coming back this weekend, you will want to get the most out of your sleep time. We spoke to Neil Robinson, Sealy bed-sleep specialist, who revealed the five most common mistakes that affect our lethargy:
1 Technology in the bedroom
Astonishing 70 percent of us use some kind of technology every night while we are in bed, with nearly a third of us being bothered by our partner using a mobile device at night. In addition to the annoying nightly annotations of text messages and emails, the blue light of the screens on our phones, tablets and televisions has an impact on our levels of melatonin, the sleep-inducing hormone. Give yourself an area without technology for 30 minutes before going to bed, which prevents the technology from negatively affecting your sleep and ensures a better night’s sleep.
2 have a sleepover cap
Although a good glass of wine can be a fun way to relieve stress at the end of a long hectic day, alcohol can adversely affect our fast sleep (REM), which is considered to be the most restorative stage of the dream. While you may fall asleep after a few drinks, you will spend less time in your REM sleep phase, which means you are more likely to feel sick and sleepy.
3 Touch the repeat button
Yes, we have blamed all of us to push snooze on our alarms to give us that precious 10 minutes more to bed. However, if we dumber during those extra minutes, we prepare our body for another sleep cycle, which is then interrupted quickly, making us feel tired of the rest of the day.
4 Share your bed with your pet
Although it may be tempting to let your beloved pet sleep with you in your beautiful comfortable bed, you will probably have a worse night’s sleep. Not only can pets bother you at night, but they can also transport allergens in the bedroom, causing them irritation and nasal inflammation, as well as respiratory problems at night.
5 Having a messy bedroom
The environment in which you sleep can play an important role in the quality of your sleep. While a comfortable and supportive mattress is crucial to help you rest, so is your environment. In fact, studies have shown that people with a messy and messy bedroom have a worse night’s sleep due to increased stress, compared to those who keep their room clean and tidy.
